Creative Learning was started here in Cookeville during April of 1985. The owners and operators are Johnny and Brenda Kimbrough, both professional educators – Johnny as a music teacher and Brenda as an elementary teacher. Mr. Kimbrough developed and designed their first daycare center in Griffin, GA in 1978, and named it “Creative Learning.”
Their family moved to Cookeville in 1984, and built the first TN “Creative Learning” here on Walnut Ave. During the next several years, they opened their second Cookeville location on Brown Ave. At the same time, they built centers in Jamestown, Crossville, Sparta and Carthage. Eventually, these centers sold, but the Walnut Ave. location has continued on.
Creative Learning has become a large family for staff members, parents and children. There are now children attending who have parents who also attended as children, themselves. We have teachers and other staff members who have been with us many years, along with those who are newly developing their skills as classroom teachers. We also have parents and children who drop in and catch us up on their family news and visit with their favorite teachers.
The building and playgrounds are updated and improved on a steady basis, and has seen many changes over the years. We are happy to keep going forward in all areas!
